What We Do

At DSI, we think holistically. DSI believes that poverty is a complex problem whose roots affect all aspects of the person, including physical, mental, economic, and spiritual health. The result is that people are entrapped in poverty by a number of factors.

The resources necessary for addressing these problems are available but are being implemented in isolated ways that inhibit sustainability and synergy. Any one person may only receive a fraction of the efforts that are targeted to her community. What is lacking in the current environment is the alignment of resources. Typically each of the entities fighting poverty does not have the time, money, or resources to address all of these problems simultaneously. Their efforts are effective in their chosen arenas, but the effect of any effort to fight poverty will remain limited to the extent that it fails to address all of these aspects of poverty.

DSI believes that complex problems demand complex solutions. We seek to be a catalyst, uniting entities that are currently working to fight poverty allowing these springs of hope to flow into a mighty river. Partnerships initiated by DSI between schools, churches, microfinance institutions, and NGOs will develop into powerful long-term alliances from which the poor may find hope and life for years to come.
