How We Work

Our Objectives

We aim to achieve several measurable results simultaneously which are related to the UN Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)

  1. Increase school attendance through improved quality of education and relevance to job market (MDG 2)
  2. Reduce number of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water (MDG 7, target 10)
  3. Develop decent and productive work for youth (MDG 8, target 16)

DSI Core Competencies

Networking

By collaborating and communicating with schools, MFIs, churches, and NGOs, DSI facilitates and strengthens relationships between groups with diverse strengths, minimizing duplication of work and maximizing use of resources. DSI enhances MFIs’ communication with other organizations in the region and provides them with referrals of motivated young adults who are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary for entering a new market.

Integrated Instruction

DSI collaborates with schools to develop a curriculum that incorporates entrepreneurship and technical concepts. DSI enables schools to expand their current programs and offer students hands-on experience with water treatment, improved scientific thinking skills, an understanding of business concepts, and the ability to disseminate knowledge in the community regarding solutions to the problem of unsafe water.

Strategic Guidance

DSI remains up-to-date about cutting edge technologies that are proven to reduce disease and are effective for sale on the local market. By opening up our technical toolbox and entrusting graduate entrepreneurs to select the most appropriate technologies, we empower students to make decisions that will contribute to their community’s development. Rather than supplanting local knowledge, DSI enables students to help themselves.
